SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The No. 23-ranked Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's volleyball team defeated Indiana Tech on Saturday, 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-22) to move to 18-0 in conference play.
Lawrence Tech (27-2, 18-0) used their experience to get the win in this match as they struggled from the floor, hitting .093 in the opening set. They held the Warriors to .071 with a few blocks and forcing Indiana Tech into nine errors in the first set. The Blue Devils won the set 25-21 as Jessica Lodge led the way with four kills and an ace. In the second, Lawrence Tech jumped out to a 18-12 lead before the Warriors battled back to within three at 20-17. McDonald sealed the set win with a kill from Doherty.
In the third set, the Blue Devils trailed 6-4 but came roaring back to take a 12-8 lead off Kristi Doherty's serve. The Warriors battled back to tie it at 17-17, but the Blue Devils battled to seal the win 25-22 as Hunt got the final kill of the match to take it 3-0. It was the teams 18th sweep of the season and 27th win of the season, both program records.
The Blue Devils were led by Lodge with 10 kills and a .308 hitting percentage followed by Hunt with eight while Varvara Gromakova and Isabella McDonald each finished with six kills. Doherty added 30 kills and 11 digs while Shelby Rasch had 13 digs and an ace.
Lawrence Tech is back on the court Wednesday, Nov. 6 when they head to Livonia, Mich. To face (RV) Madonna (Mich.) University. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
