No. 23 Lawrence Tech Defeats Northwestern Ohio 3-0; Clinch WHAC Regular Season Championship with Three Games Left

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The No. 23 Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's volleyball swept the University of Northwestern Ohio 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-22) on Friday night in Southfield, Mich. The win clinches at least a share of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship, a first for the Blue Devils volleyball program. Kristi Doherty recorded her 4,000th career assist in tonights match, becoming the first Blue Devil to reach 4,000 assists.

Lawrence Tech (26-2, 17-0) earned the win behind their offensive attack as the Blue Devils hit .333 including a program best .593 in the first set. Lawrence Tech was led by Zakia Hunt with 15 kills and a .357 hitting percentage while Isabella McDonald added 13 kills on 34 attempts. Doherty finished the game with 40 assists and now sits at 4,037 career assists. Alysha Vipushan recorded 18 digs while Hunt added four block assists.

The Blue Devils jumped out to a 9-3 lead as McDonald got a pair of kills to end the run. Northwestern Ohio responded, cutting the lead to 9-5 before Lawrence Tech extended the lead to 18-9. Jessica Lodge served LTU to the set win, 25-11 as McDonald had three of the final four points with Lodge earning the fourth off an ace to take a 1-0 lead. In the second set, the Blue Devils jumped out to a 12-3 lead enroute to a 25-16 set win.

Northwestern Ohio (21-10, 11-6) battled throughout set four as they trailed 6-5 to open the set, but LTU responded with an 11-5 run to take a 17-10 lead. McDonald and Hunt closed the run with a block. The Racers cut the lead to three at 20-17 and closed the match with a error on UNOH to take the set 25-22 and seal the match at 3-0.

The Blue Devils return to the court on Saturday, November 2 when they host Indiana Tech at Don Ridler Field House in Southfield, Mich. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
