Southfield, Mich. The Lawrence Technological University (Mich.) women's basketball team fell to the Crusaders of Madonna University (Mich.) to the tune of 61-67 on Saturday afternoon inside the Don Ridler Field House. In what looked to be two in a row for this veteran Blue Devil squad the Crusaders had a different story in mind. As the Crusaders hopped out to an early lead in the first quarter it was evident that the Blue Devils would need everything and then some to beat the feisty Crusaders today. The Blue Devils were never able to recover from the Crusaders hot start with the Crusaders keeping them within arm's reach and at one point going down 11 in the third quarter. As the fourth quarter approached it looked as if the upset bid for the Crusaders would be cut short with the Blue Devils cutting it to 2 points. But the Blue Devils weren't able to stop a series of runs that the Crusaders put together after cutting the lead to 2 with 9:50 left in the fourth quarter. Key fouls late for the Blue Devils would plague them in the waning minutes of the fourth quarter alongside defensive laps and missed shots keeping them from tying the game and taking the lead.
It wasn't all bad though for this veteran Blue Devil team with six players getting on the board and contributing for the team. Including a big push off the bench from the senior forward from Dorr, Mich. Hope Dollarhide scoring 10 points off the bench and grabbing 5 boards on 4-6 shooting. Other contributors for the Blue Devils tonight include sophomore Kendall Fisher with 17 pts alongside 5 assist, senior Kaitlyn Smith with 14 pts and 6 rebounds, and fellow senior Danielle Hanson with 13 pts and 8 boards. The Blue Devils overall on the afternoon shot 34.4% on 21 of 61 and shot 28% on 7 of 25 from beyond the arch. Turnovers killed the Blue Devils tonight as they turned it over 15 times alongside being outrebounded 46-38 on the night.
Looking ahead the Blue Devils will look to regroup and get ready for another conference opponent in the Warriors of Rochester University on Wednesday, January 8th inside the Don Ridler Field House.
