Blue Devils Split Weekend Series against Rochester

Blue Devils Split Weekend Series against Rochester

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. With what has become a pound and ground series against the Warriors continued this weekend. With the Lawrence Tech men's hockey team splitting the weekend series against the scrappy Warriors of Rochester University (Mich.). Game one saw the series go outside at the 10th Annual Blue Devil Outdoor Classic held at Clark Park in south Detroit. This is the first time in the series history that these two teams have met outside and these two teams made it worth it for the next 60 minutes of hockey.

Game One:

In what can be described as just two blue-collar programs pounding each other down until one finally fell that was the case on Friday night in game one of the weekend series. Game one on Friday night was a wet one as a drizzle would start as the game began and would over time continue throughout the night. Lawrence Tech and Rochester would exchange blows for three periods and that still wasn't enough hockey for both teams as they would head to overtime tied up 5-5 apiece. It wouldn't take long though for the Warriors to find the back of the net and take one from the blue devils on Friday night. The final score was 5-6 Rochester.

Game Two:

Mother Nature would play a factor in Saturday's rematch as the outdoor tournament was brought inside due to heavy rains that plagued the area since late Friday afternoon and continued throughout the day on Saturday. With Clark Park not being an option, it was time to head to the historic Redford Ice Rink in Redford, (Mich.) to finish the series on the weekend. Game two was a much different feel to it as the Blue Devils would come out firing on all cylinders taking game two 7-0. It was quite the different team on Saturday for both sides with Rochester feistier than ever it was evident the Blue Devils were going to need to be disciplined to win this one and split the weekend series. That happened with an onslaught of scoring in the third period the Blue Devils kept the Warriors from scoring and blanked them on defense while offensively finding the zone and firing at will.

Looking ahead the Blue Devils look to get prepared for a trip to Buffalo, New York where they will take on Buffalo State on Saturday at 7:45 PM and then again on Sunday at 1 PM. This weekend series is a tune-up of sorts before they face rival and WHAC foe Indiana Tech on January 24th and 25th. Follow along for updates on our social media pages for in-game updates.
