Blue Devils Cannot Overcome Second Half Push By the Crusaders of Madonna (Mich.)

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. The Lawrence Technological University (Mich.) Blue Devils fall to the Crusaders of Madonna University (Mich.) to the tune of 70-86 on Thursday evening inside the Don Ridler Field House.  In what looked to be a bounce back game for the Blue Devils tonight after their loss to the Pilots of Bethel (Ind.) back on December 28th, was all but the case after a second half push by the Crusaders.

That second half push that saw the Blue Devils come within arm's reach at times of tying the game but not close enough to push over the hump. With the Blue Devils down only by 4 points at halftime it looked promising for this young team going up against the more veteran team in Madonna. But the youth would show with Madonna being able to go on a series of runs throughout the second half keeping the Blue Devils from making the push over the hump and take the lead for the win. The Blue Devils struggled across the board tonight shooting 28 of 73 (38.4%) and weren't much better shooting 10 of 34 (29.4%) from beyond the arc and 4 of 7 (57.1%) at the charity stripe.

With this though a lot of positives can be said about tonight's game against Madonna with a couple of freshman having big games in their young careers as Blue Devils. Lead by the freshman from Columbus, Ohio Brandon Beavers ended the night with 19 pts and 4 assist on 9-17 shooting. While fellow freshman Gunnar Gustafson the native of Milford, Mich. Scored 14 pts and grabbed 5 boards on 5-8 shooting on the night. Other Blue Devils who made an impact tonight are Jordan Henry with 11 pts, Carter Frantz with 9 pts, Alek Ivanovic with 9 pts, and DeWayne Allen with 11 pts. After the game Coach Searles had this to say about tonight's loss to the Crusaders "we go back to the drawing board figure out what works and what isn't working taking it day by day to get to where we want to be as a team" going further saying that "the guys are looking to always constantly improve each and every day, and we are seeing that in practice with these guys."

For now the Blue Devils will go back to work as they have a couple extra days to prepare for the Warriors of Rochester University who they go against on Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at 8:00 pm inside the Don Ridler Field House.
