Blue Devils Will Be Competing in the 2019 Trinity Christian Troll Classic; Games vs. St. Xavier (Ill.) and Trinity Christian (Ill.)

SOUTHFIELD, Mich.—The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's basketball team will be on the road for a trip to Palos Heights, Ill. for the 2019 Trinity Christian Troll Classic. They will be playing two games in two days. Game one is a Friday night matchup vs. the Cougars of St. Xavier (Ill.) University (2-0) at 7:00pm. Saturday will see the Blue Devils take on the Trolls of Trinity Christian (Ill.) University (1-1) at 3:00pm.

The last time the Blue Devils were on the court, they defeated Brescia (Ky.) University 97-69. This large victory was in large part due to a strong first half. The Blue Devils put up 56 points and shot 58% from the field and made 14 of their 21 three pointers taken. The team finished the night shooting 52% from the field and their largest lead of the night was 36 points.

In the Friday night game vs. the St. Xavier Cougars, the Blue Devils will be trying to shut down a team who is coming off back to back wins where they scored 90 or more points. The Cougar offense has two players who are averaging 20 or more points per game. Junior Josh Niego is leading the team in scoring with 26 points a game, and right behind him is sophomore Joshua Evans with 20. The Cougars have also been aggressive on the glass; they are averaging 45 rebounds per game. Senior Jack Brody is leading the team in rebounds per game with nine, and trailing by a slim margin is sophomore Jack Halverson with eight and a half. The Blue Devils will have to find a way to lock down the Cougar shooters, and go up and pull down boards when they get the chance.

Saturday afternoon sees the Blue Devils playing the hosts of the tournament, Trinity Christian. The Trolls rank No. 9 in NAIA DII in three point field goal percentage defense with allowing their opponents to hit just under 24% of their attempted shots. A balanced offensive attack is what the Trolls bring to the court with five different players averaging double digit points per game. A weakness of the Trolls however is their second half play. In the second half alone, the Trolls are being outscore 109-133.

It will be a good weekend of basketball, as the Blue Devils look to continue their strong start to their 2019-2020 campaign.
