HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's tennis team fell 7-2 to Berry (Ga.) College on Monday, March 11 on PTR Spring Tennisfest action at Hilton Head Beach & Tennis.
Berry (1-0, 0-0) started the match with a two-point advantage since Lawrence Tech (6-6, 2-0) withdrew doubles third flight and singles court-six.
In doubles flights, Samantha Kohn (SO/Dearborn, Mich.) and Samantha Weber (FR/Clarkston, Mich.) defeated Sara Myers and Sydney Stone, 8-2, at court-two. Sabrina Mateos (JR/Mexico City, Mexico) and Maria Vega-Hazas (FR/Santander, Spain) fell, 8-2, to Allison Ivey and Kathryn Barker at first flight.
In singles action, Weber defeated Barker 6-3, 6-1 at second flight. Vega-Hazas fell 6-4, 6-2 to Ivey at court-one, while Mateos lost 6-0, 6-3 at third flight against Myers. Despite splitting sets, Kohn fell 6-3, 5-7, 10-8 at court-four against Stone. Maria Nicholls (FR/Shelby Township, Mich.) dropped fifth flight (6-1, 6-0) to Van Rengen.
The Blue Devils will be back in action on Tuesday, March 12 against 24th-ranked Georgetown (Ky.) College at 8:15 a.m. in Hilton Head Island, S.C. at the VanderMeer Tennis Center.
