HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.- The (RV) Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's team defeated Berry (Ga.) College, 5-4, at their PTR Spring Tennisfest opener match on Monday, March 11 at Hilton Head Beach & Tennis.
Berry (0-1, 0-0) took the early lead after winning a pair of doubles flights. Alexander Tammaro (FR/Caracas, Venezuela) and Alex Fernandez-Rajal (FR/Barcelona, Spain) took the lone Blue Devil victory in doubles action after defeating Ryan Miner and Jordan Crance, 8-6. Robert Saitov (JR/Ufa, Bashkortostan Republic Ru) and Lukas Obel (FR/Weybridge, England) dropped their set against Rory Glatt and Clay Jones, 8-5, while Adam Alger (SO/Livonia, Mich.) and Viktor Kolesnychenko (FR/Lviv, Ukraine) fell, 8-6, against Ben Knight and Jonas Frank.
Despite trailing 2-1 after doubles flights, Lawrence Tech (7-5, 1-1) built a comeback on singles, winning four and dropping two. Tammaro notched a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Miner at court-one. Fernandez-Rajal took third flight after defeating Crance 3-6, 6-2, 10-7. Kolesnychenko (6-1, 6-2) and Alejo Godall-Tintore (FR/Barcelona, Spain) (6-3, 7-6(4)) won at courts-four and six against Jones and Frank, respectively. Saitov fell 6-3, 7-5 to Glatt at second flight, while Obel dropped a 7-7, 2-6, 11-9 decision against Knight at court-five.
The Blue Devils will return to the court on Tuesday, March 12 at 8:15 a.m. when they face off with (RV) Georgetown (Ky.) College at the VanderMeer Tennis Center in Hilton Head Island.
