SOUTHFIELD, Mich.- The (RV) Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to Lake Superior State (Mich.) University on Saturday, March 2 at the Franklin Athletic Club.
Lake Superior (2-3) took an early lead in as the team won two of three doubles flights. The duo of Alexander Tammaro (FR/Caracas, Venezuela) and Alex Fernandez-Rajal (FR/Barcelona, Spain) defeated Joe Gilman and Ali Sahibzada, 8-6, at first flight. At court-two, Lukas Obel (FR/Weybridge, England) and Robert Saitov (JR/Ufa, Bashkortostan Republic Ru) fell 9-7 to Luis Valderrama and Diego Penz. Alejo Godall-Tintore (FR/Barcelona, Spain) and Viktor Kolesnychenko (FR/Lviv, Ukraine) dropped an 8-5 decision to Krishan Taneja and Harris Irfan Ul Haq at court-three.
In singles action, the Blue Devils won one flight and fell in five. Tammaro notched a 7-6(3), 7-5 victory at court-one. Despite splitting sets, Saitov (4-6, 6-4, 10-3) and Fernandez-Rajal (7-6(4), 3-6, 10-8) fell at second and third flights. Kolesnychenko and Obel dropped 6-3, 7-6(5) and 7-6(1), 6-4 decisions at singles-four and five, respectively. Godall-Tintore fell 6-2, 6-1 at court-six.
Lawrence Tech (6-4) will return to the court on Tuesday, March 5 at 12:30 p.m. when the team hosts its first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference foe of the season, Concordia (Mich.) University-Ann Arbor (1-2), at the Franklin Athletic Club.
